Monday July 18th, 2011 16:23 Oh, The Calgary Stampede

The greatest show on earth!!!!  There is more than one reason the Calgary Stampede has this tag line.  The rides, the rodeo, the chuck wagon races are all a spectacle…..but lets not forget the Stampede styles that come out during these two weeks in July.

Over the years I have tried to avoid pushing throught the hords of people on the midway, the deep fried foods, the beer tents and the sardine can of a train ride home.  This year my avoidance tactics and memorized excuses failed.  I found myself in the exact situation I had successfully bypassed all these years.  The Calgary Stampede midway!!

The energy on the ground, I admit, was exhilarating.  The grease dipped food smelled wonderful.  Even, the guy getting taken out of the beer tent on a stretcher was rather intriguing.  The one thing that I will forever have nightmares about was the attire adorned by all of  the twenty, thirty even forty something women at this affair.

To all the Calgary women out there who wore these barely there, beadazzled get ups ( you know who you are)….what are you thinking!

Here is a little styling advise: 1.) Bikini tops are made for the beach, not the rodeo on a Tuesday afternoon. 2.) If the pockets of your jean shorts hang out where the shorts end…they are too short. 3.) If you can’t bend over without showing the world your goods…this skirt is a rag, not an item of clothing. 4.) Cutting your jeans to look like chaps and sporting them with pink, cotton, Haynes her ways….is NOT sexy.

Dark wash jeans,  a white tank, and a straw cowboy hat is the way to go!  Any one, any age, any size can pull this look off.  Accessorize with silver jewellery, and a comfortable pair of brown or black cowboy boots.  This style is not only festive, but classy and cute all wrapped up into one little appropriate package.

Yee Haw all you cow-folk out there!  Hopefully the Calgary Fashion will impress more next year.

Tuesday October 19th, 2010 21:32 Military Inspiration

As fall approaches, there is more and more military inspired fashion hitting the runways.  In this months Vogue, designer Junya Watanabe shows off his “conceptual but highly wearable” collection.  The Comme des Garcons cotton military jacket will make the chilly November days much more bearable.

This vintage cream military jacket, from my own collection, will have to do for now !

Friday October 1st, 2010 16:17 Beam me up !

Massive rows of lights, huge plumes of smoke and a space age model sparked curiosity in Okotoks last night.  The site for this shoot was along the river path, just behind Cimarron Way.  With residents wondering what was going on, Noah Fallis (photographer) created a UFO landing right in their backyards.

What an adventure this trip to Cochrane turned out to be !!! This amazing tree root, on a remote pathway along the creek in Cochrane, was simply mystical.  After a muddy, chilly and steep hike down to this fairy tale site, it was mind boggling what Noah created with his lighting genius !!!!

Last week I had the pleasure of working on a photo shoot with the talented Noah Fallis (photographer) at the most unique boutique.  Eleven Eleven (233 10 Street Northwest Calgary), holds treasures from all over the globe.  With jewels from India, exquisite fabrics locally designed and produced into the most divine articles, to scarves made from recycled sweaters….it is a must see.
