Tuesday September 21st, 2010 01:21 Eleven Eleven

Last week I had the pleasure of working on a photo shoot with the talented Noah Fallis (photographer) at the most unique boutique.  Eleven Eleven (233 10 Street Northwest Calgary), holds treasures from all over the globe.  With jewels from India, exquisite fabrics locally designed and produced into the most divine articles, to scarves made from recycled sweaters….it is a must see.

Saturday September 11th, 2010 16:58 Jason Wu Spring 2011…Perfection !

He masterfully pairs masculine pant suits with the most feminine embellishments.  The sailor stripe will never be anything but iconic, it’s nice to see this carried through in his Spring 2011 collection….and the floral….oh the floral !!!!!  Marvelous !!!!

Thursday September 9th, 2010 22:52 Where’s the Grown Up Glam ?

It’s mind-boggling to me the stained cut-offs, stretched-out Disney sweatshirts and flip flops with a permanent imprint women beyond there 20’s feel the need to wear.  What are you thinking??!!

It’s easy to get stuck in the mundane routine of walking the dog, taking the kids to school, taking the garbage out, blah, blah, blah. As much as this is a mandatory part of our day-to-day lives, there is no need to look as though you’ve been without human contact for three weeks. It’s time to step it up a notch ladies.

There are so many times that I need to run to Walmart for a carton of milk, and instead of climbing in the car in my tattered boy T and some joggers that don’t even resemble a true colour anymore… I opt for something a little more presentable.  Jeans are always a safe bet (nice ones, not the pair you’ve had in your closet since you were in middle school) satin cami, fitted suit jacket, paired with some sweet flats.  If hair is a problem, always have a crocheted touqe handy or a colourful fedora….and if you get anything out of this never, never leave the house without lip-gloss.   Mind you, this routine doesn’t come without great ridicule from my self proclaimed “low maintenance” husband, but believe me when you run into that uber popular snob you went to high school with and she looks like she was in a car accident and you look like you belong in Holt Renfrew, you will be so glad you took those few moments to defrump!! Remember, chipped nail polish is epitamy of laziness!

Although living in small town Okotoks is great for raising a family, it does hinder your ability to put together that last minute utterly luxe ensemble for a surprise business event or family gathering.  There isn’t always the time to run to the big city to find that perfect little cocktail dress or just the right show-stopping shoes to complement your newest pair of Sevens, but don’t fret… there are hidden gems all around town.  Ginger Laurier is a find in itself.  With the plethora of adorably classy dresses they have on hand, along with their racks of designer jeans and vast collection of fabulous footwear, you can’t go wrong.  That’s not the only hidden fashion utopia. Just down the street, in one of the most breathtaking heritage homes in town, you will find Diva Beadz. If your looking for a perfectly unique piece of jewelry to adorn your effortless couture outfit, look no further.  Each piece is completely artistic.  From chunky necklaces to exquisitely dainty earrings you will always find just the right accessory to complement your look. It’s out there folks, fashion finds for the small town girl!

My advice to all of you Momma’s out there getting ready to drop the kids at school, or just running into the Safeway down the block…. never leave home without a great jacket, classy shoes and most of all lip gloss.  You never know who you might run in to.

What an experience it was to work on this photo shoot in The Crowsnest Pass.  It was an all day affair, changing locations around the Leitch Collieries.  The inspiration for the shoot was Fur !!!  It’s back and so beautiful.  Fur wasn’t the only trend captured on this shoot.  The vintage coats worn exude grown-up glam, that is this fall seasons focus.  More images from the shoot will be posted in the next week.

Monday August 23rd, 2010 04:27 A Walk on the Wild Side

I have always been one of the worlds greatest “Clothes Whores”, whether it be bargain finds at a local thrift store or the newest fashions to grace the sweet smelling pages of  Vogue magazine.  This passion for fashion has become a day to day reality for me.

With all of the career changes, soul searching, great spousal support and a daughter going into middle school (EEEEEK)…what a wild ride it has been !!!!!

With that being said, I have had great opportunity.  Great opportunity to make my love for fashion a part of my identity.  One of  Calgary’s best up and coming photographers, Britta Kokemor, www.brittakokemor.com, has taken me on as one of the stylists for her many fashion shoots.

Here are images from one of our shoots……stay tuned for more.
